The country’s first Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS), Chinasat 9 is geared up for launch next month.

Chinasat 9, which arrived at Xichang Qingshan airport on May 5, was constructed in France, and is part of China's first generation DBS system, which will send out signals traverse over 98 per cent of the country’s territory. It is capable of transmitting up to 200 radio and TV channels to users throughout China, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, media reports.

The satellite which set them back a whopping EUR100m will be operated by China Direct Broadcast Satellite Co Ltd, joining the company’s four other satellites already servicing on orbits with signals covering the whole Chinese terrain.
