The country’s first Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS), Chinasat 9 is geared up for launch next month.
Chinasat 9, which arrived at Xichang Qingshan airport on May 5, was
constructed in France, and is part of China's first generation DBS
system, which will send out signals traverse over 98 per cent of the
country’s territory. It is capable of transmitting up to 200 radio and
TV channels to users throughout China, including Hong Kong, Macao and
Taiwan, media reports.
The satellite which set them back a whopping EUR100m will be
operated by China Direct Broadcast Satellite Co Ltd, joining the
company’s four other satellites already servicing on orbits with
signals covering the whole Chinese terrain.
