U.S. microprocessor producer AMD will in partnership with China Electronics Standardization Institute set up a joint research center in Beijing.
The center will reportedly be used to research and develop test and
evaluation technologies of integrated circuit and central processing
units. The company has a research and development center in Shanghai
and an assembly and testing plant in Suzhou.
With China being the one of the world’s biggest electronics markets,
AMD wants to ensure that it gets a ‘chip’ out of it. It expects China
to become its single largest market by 2009. Reports quote the
company’s Chief Operating Officer as saying “China is one of the
engines driving AMD's global evolution and today's announcements
reflect our commitment to and belief in the future of China and its
strong technical community.'
