JP Morgan says the country’s demand for computers and mobile phones have paled considerably after the Sichuan earthquake, which could cause a drop in domestic demand by an estimated 10 per cent in the second quarter.
Rising inflation in China, currently the worlds largest handset market
and second largest PC market, have analysts concerned as soaring prices
on consumer goods could slow down demand even further in the latter
part of the year. "We are concerned about the risk of a demand weakness
from emerging markets as inflation continues to erode consumer buying
power,” they said.
Nokia is reportedly stopping shipments for lower-priced models and
other companies that may be hurt by slowing demand include Lenovo Group
Ltd., Mediatek Inc., Wintek Corp. and Richtek Technology Corp.
