China Merchants Bank Buys Wing Lung Bank
China Merchants Bank has reportedly won a 'bidding war' for Hong Kong-based Wing Lung Bank. The Chinese bank offered HKD156.5 per share, more than other bidders, including ICBC and the Australia & New Zealand Banking Group, were prepared to pay. The offer values the Hong Kong bank at USD4.7 bn, Dow Jones reports.

 

Afghan Airline Launches Kabul-Urumqi Route
On 26 May, Kam Air, Afghanistan's first private airline, launched a new route from the capital Kabul to Urumqi. The new service began with two weekly flights, every Monday and Thursday. The flight leave Kabul at 17:00, arriving in Urumqi at 20:00; the return flight departs from Urumqi at 10:35, and arrives in Kabul at 13:25.
