- Agricultural Bank of China, one of China's Big Four Banks, posted a 27 per cent rise in 2007 net profit.

- The insurance industry had received about 202,000 quake-related laims as of 25 May, according to the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.

- The average booking rate of Beijing's five-star hotels has risen by 77 per cent for the upcoming Olympics, according to the Beijing Tourism Bureau.

 
- The total agricultural products that China imported from Taiwan reached 456,000 tonnes worth USD540m from 2005 to April this year, announced Yang Yi, Spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

- The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) has injected RMB500m (USD 71.4m) to the Sichuan province-based Dongfang Electric Corp Ltd.

- Bank of East Asia Ltd expects to issue at least one million RMB-dominated debit cards by the end of 2008, said David Li, Chairman of BEA.

- China Steel Corp, the biggest steel producer in Taiwan, will raise local steel products prices in the third quarter by an average of 17.8 per cent, stated T.H. Chen, Vice General Manager of China Steel.

- Taiwan's GDP in the first quarter rose 6.06 per cent year on year, beating former estimates as strong growth in exports boosted the island's manufacturing and service industries, according to official figures.

- Profit growth of listed Chinese companies will remain strong with a possible 20 per cent rise this year, said Li Jing, China Head of JPMorgan Chase.
