After much restructuring of its telecom industry this year, the country’s telecommunications industry is abuzz with deals and take-overs. China Unicom has expressed its intent to take over China Netcom, a fixed-line operator, and said it is willing to fork out over USD55 bn for the company.
China Unicom has in addition agreed to sell its wireless network to
China Telecom, the country’s largest fixed-line operator, for USD15.2
bn.
The restructuring, reportedly the world’s largest industrial
reorganization, was aimed at improving competition and introducing
high-speed 3G mobile services, media reports.
