Beijing has officially put into service China’s “Copyright Collective Management Rule” to aid as a watchdog for audio and video related matters such as the right of performance, broadcasting, duplication and distribution as well as Internet broadcasting rights.
In addition, it will keep an eye on audio and video programs used by
Karaoke sites, radio and TV stations as well as websites. Reports have
it that the new association will be at liberty to take legal action
against copyright violators.
Zhang Zhenhua, former president of China Radio International, has been elected as President, and Wang Huapeng as Vice President, secretary-general and legally responsible person for the association, state media writes.
At the same day of this announcement, Baidu, China's top search engine, was warned by the Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC) that it could lose advertising contracts over allegations that the company allows the exchange of copied music files.
