Volkswagen Recalls 178,000 Sedans
Volkswagen's joint venture with China's First Auto Works (FAW) is
recalling 178,731 Audi sedans "to fix faulty ignition coils," Reuters
reports. This includes China-made Audi A4, A6 and A6L that were
produced between 2001 and 2006, the General Administration of Quality
Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said. The total cost for the
recall has not yet been announced by Volkswagen.
Ford Opens 200th Dealership in China
With its new branch in Chongqing, Changan Ford Sales Co. announced the
opening of its 200th full service dealership in China. "We are
continuing with the rapid expansion of our authorised Ford dealer
network in China to support our exceptional sales growth in the
market," said Nigel Harris, Vice President of Ford Motor China and
General Manager of Changan Ford Sales Co. Changan Ford has doubled its
dealerships in China since the end of 2005.
Lotte Leaves Chinese Test Markets Behind
South Korea-based Lotte Confectionery said it will expand markets
beyond Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin, and enter Guangdong, Jiangsu and
Zhejiang provinces. Lotte has recently entered a venture with
U.S.-based Hershey's, and plans to cooperate with major retailers and
supermarkets to increase sales in the new regions, Reuters reports. In
Shanghai and Beijing, the market share for Lotte products is between
6.5 and 7.7 per cent, AC Nielsen data suggests.
Air France Increases Flights to Shanghai
Air France has said it will raise the number of weekly flights between
Paris and Shanghai, from 12 to 14, as of 9 June. The French airline and
its Dutch partner KLM will then offer four daily flights to Europe. Air
France also maintains 14 flights to Beijing and Hong Kong and flies
three times a week between Paris and Guangzhou. KLM offers 32 flights
between the Netherlands and China.
Accor Opens 41 Ibis Hotels
French hotel chain Accor said it has plans to open 41 hotels under its
economy brand Ibis this and the next year in China, Trading Markets
quoted Robert Murray, Accor's Assistant President for the Greater China
Region. In 2008, Ibis hotels will open in Beijing, Shanghai,
Guangzhou, Suzhou and Harbin. Accor already runs 12 Ibis hotels in
China. The French have also plans to open several five-star hotels
under the name 'Pullman' by 2010.
DHL Sinotrans Flagship Store Opens in Shanghai
DHL Sinotrans has opened its first flagship retail store in Shanghai.
The facility covers 221 sq.m. and supplies express services. The
company said it will open more similar stores in Beijing and Shenzhen
later this year. DHL Sinotrans is a joint venture of Germany's DHL and
China's Sinotrans and operates a service network covering 318 cities in
China.
