Hong Kong Bans Poultry from China
Hong Kong has announced an immediate ban on poultry imports from China, local media RTHK reports. This comes after samples in the Sham Shui Po market tested positive for the H5N1 avian influenza virus. York Chow, Health Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said all 2,700 birds at the market have been killed and the area sealed. In 1997, Hong Kong reported the first official major bird flu outbreak. H5N1 has killed more than 200 people since 2003.

Record Rainfall Kills 2 in Hong Kong
Heavy rain and landslides have killed 2 people in Hong Kong, media reports. The storm led to more than 20 centimeters of rain in one hour on Saturday morning and injured at least 20 other people in the neighbouring Chinese territories, a government spokesperson said. Streets were flooded and some closed in Hong Kong’s centre. 345 flights were delayed and six were canceled. A new storm is forecast for Tuesday.
