As market rumours have predicted for some time, Germany-based media giant Bertelsmann has announced that it will shut down its book club business in China after internal targets could not be met.
The company employs 200 people in 36 stores China-wide. Financial Times
Deutschland reported that Bertelsmann will continue to be present in
China, while Reuters writes that the media company is also looking at
selling its 50 per cent stake in Sony BMG, a joint venture with Sony of
Japan, for USD1.5 bn, this summer.
