French-American communications provider Alcatel-Lucent has signed a USD1 bn agreement with China Mobile in Washington D.C.
China Mobile will buy core network solutions, wireless network
solutions and IP router equipment for its third generation mobile
service standard TD-SCDMA, the Alcatel-Lucent writes in its press
release. The agreement was signed in Washington D.C. during a visit of
Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan to the U.S.
The Chinese have started a trial with its homegrown TD-SCDMA standard
in eight cities two months ago. Alcatel-Lucent said it is happy to see
that "China Mobile relies upon our network solutions and services to
meet their growing demand for mobile and fixed services", the Economic
Times quoted Olivia Qiu, President of Alcatel Shanghai Bell.
