China has raised the prices for gasoline, diesel and kerosene, as of Friday, the National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement.
The prices for gasoline and diesel will increase by RMB1,000 (USD145) or about 18 per cent
per tonne. This is the first increase in eight months, Reuters reports.
China also announced it will raise the price for kerosene by RMB1,500
(USD217.50) or 25 per cent per tonne.
The International Herald Tribune writes that "China has been one of the
main factors driving oil prices". State-run Xinhua News Agency
dismissed this claim by quoting Zhang Guobao, Vice Chairman of China's
National Development and Reform Commission, saying that "this is an incomprehensive idea".
