- Chinese oil refiners suffered a loss of about RMB3,000 or USD435 for each tonne of production before the recent 18 per cent price rise. This was due to the widening gap between the frozen domestic and soaring global prices.

- The Olympics Logistics Center for the 2008 Beijing Games has handled more than 3 million articles since it opened last year.

- More than 18.5 million hectares of wheat, or 80 percent of the total planted area of the crop in China, had been harvested.

 

- The industrial output of China's major enterprises grew 16 per cent year-on-year in May, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.

- China's urban fixed-asset investment rose 25.6 per cent year-on-year to RMB4.0264 tr in the first five months of 2008, the National Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday. Investment in state-owned and state-controlled enterprises was RMB 1.6397 tr, up 18.0 per cent. Investment in the real estate sector grew 31.9 per cent to RMB951.9 bn.

- Chinese insurers had paid RMB32m in claims from areas affected by the May 12 earthquake as of June 18, the China Insurance Regulatory Commission said on Friday. The total included RMB184m in life insurance and RMB143m in property insurance. As of June 18, the sector had accepted 249,000 claims.

- China introduced more than 20 supporting regulations on foreign mergers and acquisitions (M&A) of domestic firms, a senior Chinese legislator said. The regulations came out before the Antitrust Law goes into effect on August 1, 2008.

- The number of China Mobile's subscribers increased by 7.49 million in May to reach an all-time high of 407 million.
