Delta Air Lines will cut its non-stop flights from the United States to Shanghai during the winter travel season, the company announced in a press release. Analysts have been predicting significant flight cuts by U.S. carriers as the American travel market contracts due to the continuing fallout from the credit crunch and a weakening U.S. dollar.
The American airline will reduce its flights from 7 to 5 per week from
Atlanta to Shanghai as of 7 November. The company said it will continue
to offer daily flights during the peak summer season this year and will
do so again from May 2008.
"It's a seasonal pull down. We remain committed to the Shanghai market
and we are going to continue [to provide service to Shanghai]," the
Atlanta Business Chronicle quotes spokeswoman Susana Elliott. "These
adjustments allow us to better match demand in China in the off-peak
season."
